Social media in bed can disrupt your sleep and contribute to sleep disturbances.
Due to:
- Disrupt the natural sleep-wake cycle by exposing the brain to blue light, suppressing melatonin production, a hormone that regulates sleep.
- It may cause FOMO (fear of missing out), which may be negative before bed as it can create feelings of anxiety and stress, making it harder to relax and fall asleep.
- Reduce social interaction and face-to-face communication, which are vital for building and maintaining social connections and relationships.
Do
- Instead of using social media in bed, engaging in relaxing activities such as reading a book, listening to calming music, taking a warm bath, meditating, or practising relaxation techniques is recommended.
